hot day!

so the heat came back...even if for only a day or so it's not wanted right now.  really, i have a HUGE list of things that need done and most of them depend on the weather.  hoping to break out some red paint in a day or two.

for now i will share this cutie mirror i snagged from a garage sale for a mere .25 cents!  pulled out the heirloom white paint, some black glaze and topped it off with a couple coats of lacquer.

before:

Eagle mirror1

yes, there is little love here...we have the faux wood (plastic) and it's an eagle...woo.

Eagle mirror2

nothing against eagles...they are very regal birds.  just thrown together with this dated faux wood design leaves little to be desired. but....

i think this breaths new life into this decor piece, don't you? :)

be back VERY soon to share more items i've refinished for my up-coming flea market.  here's a peak for now...

nursery 2pc

finally seeing things to the end!  lovin' this fall-ish type weather.  makes me very productive. :)

Nursery 2pc1 copy

here are a couple wooden pieces I picked up at different yard sales recently and felt with the right finish they would work well together.  I could see this in a childs bedroom/playroom easily.  the paint color is a "oops" paint from home depot in somewhat of a robin egg blue.  i stenciled on some numbers in another "oops" paint grey.

*melody cabinet

here is the FINISHED music cabinet i gave you sneak peeks on some time ago.  i still am blaming it on the weather that it took this long. lol

(be prepared with oodles of images)

Melody cabinet1

this cabinet was sitting alongside the road.  it looked rough and had to be handmade.  the legs are definately not suitable to hold this heavy cabinet body.

Melody cabinet2

have to throw in credit as the hubby did all the dirty work of sanding, cleaning and removing/building NEW feet for this cabinet. :)

Melody cabinet3

after a few days of playing in glue, vintage sheet music and glaze we have this...

Melody cabinet4

oh also need to add that hubby hand brushed on a coat of  Minwax Poleyurethane to seal up those yummy vintage music sheets and give it long lasting use!

Melody cabinet5

kept the old hardware as it seemed to go well with the music note 'feel'. :)

Melody cabinet6

it was actually fun placing the sheet music in particular places as to be visuallly pleasing.

Melody cabinet7

Melody cabinet8

even the back got attention! :)

Melody cabinet9

the little music sign i picked up at a garage sale awhile ago...this will go along with the cabinet if wanted! :)

Melody cabinet10

just look at those legs!  hubby designed them and attached them the proper way with screws and wood glue so the are NOT coming off! :)

Melody cabinet11

some of the sheet music dates back to 1910.  i know there is a music lover out there that really could appreciate this!  do you know one?

paint love

i did finally finish (well, with much help from the hubs) my music cabinet.  hope to have finished photos in the next day or so.

i've been busting out a few random pieces here and there.  here is a vintage brass magazine rack that was thrown in on a pile of items i purchased at an estate auction.  figured i could breath new life into it buy giving it a funky new color.Metal mag rack1

here i tried to give a close up of the simple criss cross design.

Metal mag rack2

i love this spray paint by Rust-oleum Ultra cover 2X the coverage!  i definately recommend it.  half the time in working and LOVE the QUALITY! :)

Metal mag rack4

i figured it might get a little abused with mags and books being thrown into it so i coated it with Minwax Clear Laquer (found this stuff on clearance for $2, score!).

Metal mag rack3

i think it turned out fun/funky and hope to find it a good home soon. :)

Metal mag rack5

my fleamarket and antique books looked right at home in there. :)

Metal mag rack6

be back soon with other treasures to share!
